Water along the trail can sometimes pose a challenge, but it's also beautiful when it reflects the clear, blue sky above. That smooth stretch of blue among the grasses, flowers, spruces, rocks and moss draws the eye, reminding you that the sun is out and winds are calm. It is its own form of trail magic. This scene was painted from a stretch along the Crawford Path near Mount Pierce in the wild and rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire. It is a spot I have passed often and its flatness offers relief from the ups and downs of the rest of the trail.
