Course Description: 

Epilepsy is a complex neurological condition. With insights provided by carers and individuals living with epilepsy, this course defines epilepsy and discusses its prevalence, diagnosis and possible causes and symptoms. The different types of seizures are described, as well as appropriate first aid, and identifying when to call an ambulance. ‘Triggers’ and lifestyle factors are also identified, in the context of how to best manage the condition.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants should be able to:

• Describe epilepsy as a disorder and the different types of seizures people experience
• Identify the ways epilepsy may affect a person
• Understand management of seizures including first aid
• Describe practical ways that a multidisciplinary team can support a person living with epilepsy
