Product Description: This is a strand of Etched Carnelian Beads.
Note: As this is an antique item, it may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
Etched Carnelian beads originate from the Indus Valley Civilization. Patterns were drawn on the carnelian using natron, a solution derived from plants, and then baked at low temperatures of approximately 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While these beads have been found in archaeological sites across Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed they were made in the Indus Valley and transported via land and sea routes.
