The Dutch State Railways (NS) 500 series consisted of 45 robust diesel-electric locomotives introduced from 1946. The first ten units, numbered 501 to 510, were delivered to the Netherlands shortly after the Second World War through the British Army’s War Department. These reliable three-axle locomotives were primarily employed for shunting duties at major stations including Utrecht, Zwolle and Rotterdam Feijenoord.
