Hamilton has a long and distinguished military heritage dating back to the First World War. Originally founded in Pennsylvania in 1892, the brand became a major supplier of military timepieces, particularly during the Second World War and later through its British military contracts. By the 1970s, Hamilton was producing rugged field watches for the British Ministry of Defence, combining clear legibility, reliable mechanical movements and practical durability. These military-issued watches remain highly collectible today.
This authentic Hamilton W10 British military-issued wristwatch dates to 1975 and represents one of the most recognisable military field watch designs of the Cold War era. Housed in its distinctive stainless steel tonneau-shaped case, the watch features the classic matte black dial with bold Arabic numerals, luminous sword hands and the broad arrow symbol denoting British government property.
The caseback retains its original military engravings, including W10-6645-99, NATO stock number 523-8290, the broad arrow ownership mark and issue number 4560/75, confirming its military provenance and 1975 issue date.
Powered by the reliable hand-wound Hamilton Calibre 649 with 17 jewels, this watch was built for service rather than luxury, prioritising durability, legibility and dependable timekeeping. Presented on an army green NATO-style strap and offered in superb condition, it remains an excellent example of a genuine Ministry of Defence-issued watch that carries both military history and everyday wearability.
