This cloisonné enamel bangle was made in the early 20th Century, most likely in China. The colors and design are just exquisite, and to appreciate the craftsmanship, one needs to understand the process of making cloisonné. Derived from the French word cloison (meaning "to separate") in this process fine metals are soldered to create an outline of the desired pattern. These compartments are filled with different colors of opaque enamel, and the metallic outline emphasizes the intricacy of the design. This oversized bangle is flat on the interior. The interior diameter is 2 9/16" and it measures 11/16" wide.
