In Africa, these beads are known as Chachaso. The term Millefiori is Italian for "a thousand flowers." After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East, the Venetian glass industry faced significant economic challenges due to the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market. In response, Venice produced highly decorative glass, represented by Millefiori glass. Traders, who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical glass beads from this glass and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
