Linares had a wonderfully vivid dream of a magical forest where rocks and clouds transformed into marvellous creatures - a lion with an eagle’s head, a donkey with butterfly wings, all joyfully shouting one word “Alebrijes!” These dreamlike beings became a cornerstone of Mexican artistry. You may even recognise them from Disney Pixar’s film Coco, where Alebrijes appear as magical spirit guides.

Make Me Roar’s crochet version captures that same sense of wonder, combining bold colourwork with joyful embroidered details. Worked in the amigurumi style and constructed in a continuous spiral, the pattern is clear and beautifully illustrated with step-by-step photos. Once crocheted, simple embroidery stitches are added to bring your Alebrije to life in true folk-art style. 

The finished creature stands approximately 20cm tall when made with a 2.5mm hook and DK cotton yarn. Perfect for displaying or gifting as a handmade keepsake.
