Description: These beads originate from the Indus Valley Civilization. The patterns are drawn on carnelian using a liquid derived from plants called natron, and then baked at low temperatures of 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that the beads were made in the Indus River region and transported via land and sea routes.
